My Baby Is 2!

This past weekend we celebrated our sweet little girl’s second birthday!  I can’t believe how quickly these past two years have flown by and my baby has grown into a sassy, super smart, full of personality, sweet little girl.  These days it seems like everyday she learns something new or says something new – it’s such a fun age!

Friday Just Fotos….?

Hi friends… so I’m being a bit of a slacker this week and not including any finds or favorites…just some fotos! 🙂  Although now that I think about it I guess I could have included the fun little icons/smileys that I found on my phone this week under finds.  So I am admittedly not a very technological person.  And so maybe this isn’t news to you… but I had no idea where these cute little icons on Facebook were coming from, let alone that I had them on MY phone all along, too!! That is until my sister pointed out how lame my smileys were and showed me how to improve them!  I have an iPhone and with a couple little clicks in my settings…. TA DA!  How fun!

Well there you go, a find!! 🙂

Today we got to have a fun family day!  My hubby has some extra vacation days to use so he took today off and he got a glimpse into our days of playing, going to the park, being outside!!  We went on a picnic and to a nearby garden and wandered around.  M loved all the “fowers” and “flies” aka butterflies.  It was so much fun getting to have Daddy home with us all day!

Seriously, would you look at that sass?!

Friday Finds, Favorites and Fotos!

Has it really been a week since the 4th of July?!  Why is it that time during the summer FLIES by??  I mean think about it… in Feburary, what’s supposed to be the shortest month of the year, the week drags by.  And yet the 3 months of summer seem to go by in a flash.  Such a mystery to me… nonetheless I hope you all had a great week!  Here’s what I’ve got for you today:

Last week as we were getting ready to spend time at the campground with my parents and be outside all evening waiting for fireworks on the 4th of July, I realized that I hadn’t made bug spray this year yet and the one from last year was all gone.  I ran to the store to grab the essential oils that I would need and instead decided to try this out:  Suzi’s Lavendar Bug Off Natural Insect Spray.  It’s made not far from here and all that’s in it are water and 3 of the main mosquito repellant oils: lemon eucalyptus, lavender and citronella.  I normally like to make my own, but in an attempt to save a little time I decided to give it a try.  I bought a bottle of clove oil (because that’s another good mosquito deterrent) and after adding a couple of drops of that in, I had my spray!

Not only did I feel good knowing this spray was safe to use even on M, but it worked great!!!  We were camping, outside all evening and our whole family used it and no one got a single bite!! YAY!

So I’m mildly obsessed with guacamole recently.  I blame it on my brother.  He used to live with us and went through a guacamole phase right before he moved out so he was always making it.  Well I guess I got hooked because now I am the one making it.  It’s super easy to make, goes great on wraps, salads or just as a dip and it’s pretty healthy for me, right?! 🙂

Here’s what I use: avocado, green pepper, jalapeño, onion, tomato, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, salt & pepper.  You can add however much of each ingredient you want – just as long as avocado is the star! 🙂  Yummy!

(Bottom left: she loves these things!  Bottom right: 1st time at Tropical Sno!  “Love it!”)

Updates:  In the last couple of weeks she’s started being able to put on her own pants/shorts/pull up diaper.  She can officially count to 14, sometimes 15.  She can carry on a full conversation with you.  And the other day we caught her singing the whole “Itsy, Bitsy Spider” song to her baby while making the baby do the actions!!!! So cute!

Have a wonderful weekend!  As I used to say to my students: Stay safe & Make good choices! 😉

Happy {Belated} 4th of July!

4th of July is one of the best holidays ever, isn’t it?!!  I mean what’s better than enjoying time with the family, barbecuing, going to parades and fireworks and soaking up the sun?  Did you know that over 150 million hotdogs were eaten Friday and 700 million pounds of chicken were purchased last week leading up to the 4th?!  WOW!!!

Growing up, the 4th of July was a huge deal in our house!  Each year we dressed up in our patriotic colors and spent the day parade hopping, having a picnic lunch, going swimming in the afternoon and spending the evening in the park walking through the carnival, eating our standard fried chicken, pasta salad, chips dinner and waiting for the fireworks to start!  Same thing every year!  Luckily for me, my husband didn’t have much in the way of 4th of July traditions with his family, so he acclimated right in (minus the parade part because for some crazy reason he HATES them!!).  Now that we have M, it’s been so much fun to spend the day with her, showing her our traditions and yearly activities and getting to experience them in a whole new way, through her!

Here are some highlights of our day:

Waiting for the parade to start and of course we sat facing the sun so she was squinting and looking mad in all of her pics! 🙂

Swinging at the park!

Time for fireworks!!!

How blessed are we to live in this great country!?!  Happy Birthday, America…

Friday Finds, Favorites and Fotos!!

Happy Friday, everyone!  I hope you had a great week!  We finished up swimming lessons this week, M went strawberry picking for the very first time and we took a little family field trip to the Science Center!  I’m looking forward to this coming week as we gear up for the 4th of July – one of my FAVORITE holidays!!!

Seriously, how cute is this!?  I’ve seen kid’s kitchen centers made from entertainment centers floating around on the internet, but this is the first time I’ve seen this idea.  The grill is made from a side table purchased at a thrift store!  What a great idea!

M is at that age where she wants to do everything “self!!!” aka by herself!  In sticking with her independent self, she more and more wants to make her own choices about things, including what she eats.  I love this idea of making a little “go to” box of snack items in the fridge!  That way I can fill it with semi-healthy things and yet she is still able to make the decision as to what she wants to eat for her snack.

M’s quotes/actions from the week:

-When driving the cars in front of us were coming to a stop so she starting yelling “watch out, watch out!” while pointing!  Later while at a stop light the car in front of us wasn’t going so she started saying “beep, beep”… I fear that we have a little backseat driver on our hands! 🙂

-After having been woken up from her nap she proceeded to lay back down and say “M tired”, refusing to get out of bed… and it starts…

-For a little while now she will randomly say “love you” while giving hugs/kisses, but lately when she gives a hug she rubs/pats our backs.  So cute!

-She is newly in love with airplanes and motorcycles (insert proud Papa) and is the first to announce/point out “aplane” and “cycle” as soon as she sees or hears one!

Swimming at Gamma & Papa’s house!       Her very first bike!! Aka “cycle” as she calls it 🙂

Cherry picking!  She had so much fun!         A little ice cream cone, anyone?!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  We’re looking forward to some family time, a grill-out/game night with our neighbors and going to the art festival.  Enjoy whatever it is that YOU have planned! 🙂

It’s Been Awhile…Here’s What We’ve Been Up To!

Hi friends!!  So, it’s been a little while since I’ve posted on here!  We’ve been BUSY!!  Here’s a little update on what we’ve been up to!

Baby Shower – my sister is having a baby!  She’s due next month so a couple weekends ago my mom, cousin and I threw a baby shower for her.  The theme was pink and gray chevron, a little shabby chic girly.  It turned out super duper cute!!  We had a great time with all the girls: family and friends, and my sister got tons of awesome gear!

VBS – last week at church we had VBS, or Vacation Bible School.  I volunteered in the nursery because M won’t go in there during church and I thought it might help her to get familiar with the room and kids her age.  Most nights we had around 7 or 8 little toddlers in there.  M had a blast!  She was so comfortable to run around and play the whole time (as long as I stayed in the room of course!).  It was great!

Swimming Lessons – So this week M started swimming lessons.  This technically isn’t her first experience with them.  Last spring, we enrolled her in a baby swim class through the local YMCA but she was pretty little and more or less we just held her while she splashed around.  This time is different.  The lessons are through the city swimming pool and she is actually able to attempt some of the tasks (ie. blow bubbles, use arms to make swimming motion, throw and retrieve diving sticks, etc.).  However, so far she hasn’t been a big fan.  😦  She loves to go swimming normally so I’m not really sure why she isn’t impressed with her swimming lessons.. maybe because they’re in the morning before it warms up and the water is freezing or maybe it’s because there are all kinds of kids all crowded around in the same area.  Whatever the reason, I’m hoping that over the next 2 weeks she warms up to the idea of them.  In the mean time, here are a couple of pictures that perfectly capture her feelings towards her swimming lessons!

Parade – Last Saturday we went to a local town’s summer festival.  M attended a couple parades last year, but this year she understood what was going on a little more (aka the whole candy thing…).  Although it took her a little bit to come out of her shell, by the end she was having a great time waving to the parade participants and retrieving her candy!  Afterwards we went to the carnival where she played a couple games and won herself a beach ball!

Father’s Day – Lastly, this past Sunday we had a great day honoring the special dads in our lives!!  We started the day going out for Brunch just the three of us to celebrate my hubby.  Now there’s a dad who’s so in love with his little girl and is literally wrapped around her teeny tiny pinky.  What a lucky little girl!  After stopping by to visit my husband’s dad, we spent the rest of the day with my family, enjoying the weather, playing games and having a barbecue.  The boys even did a little off roading on the mini bike and my husband rode one for the very first time!!  I know that everyone thinks this, but I really do have the best dad ever.  Okay so he’s at least the best dad ever for me! 🙂  We are so blessed to have him in our lives and I thank God every day that I get to be he and my mom’s daughter.  And side note… he really is the BEST papa ever!

Well, there you have it!  My little update on our lives and what we’ve been up to!  In between getting ready for the shower, a killer ear infection that I had last week and VBS/swim lessons, I haven’t been able to make the time to write on here!  Hopefully I’ll be able to do better going forward…we’ve got some pregnancy related issues to discuss! 😉

Have a great rest of your week!

Friday Finds, Favorites and Fotos!

I hope you all had a great week!  Ours went quick!  Last weekend was a 3-day weekend full of fun with the family, going to the zoo and farmer’s market, that launched us into a great, short week!  We are now officially on summer break (I was watching 2 little boys whose parents are teachers) and I’ve been loving every minute of getting to devote 100% of my attention to my little Pippylove!  We’ve spent time at the park, swimming in her baby pool and we even went and had lunch with Daddy and Grandma – all in all it’s been a fabulous start to summer!

Okay so I found the following a couple of weeks ago but I completely forgot to write about it last week so I had to include it this week instead!  Have you heard of The Sneaky Chef???  Her motto is “veggies tonight without the fight”.  Well a couple weeks ago I stumbled across The Sneaky Chef’s Veggie Pasta at the grocery store.  I think I forgot to mention that I’m a vegetarian, and because of this we tend to have pasta almost always in the pantry to be able to incorporate into dinner whenever necessary.  Typically I buy multigrain pasta (we try to avoid white flour as much as possible) but when I saw this veggie pasta I had to give it a try!  Not only is this pasta multigrain, but it also has 6 veggies in it: Spinach, Broccoli, Carrots, Tomato, Beet, and Shiitake Mushrooms.  The best part is that it cooks up white, has a normal pasta texture and tastes great…like regular noodles!!  So if you happen to come across it the next time you’re shopping for groceries, you should definitely give it a try!

This week I thought I’d share with you my top 5 favorite things that M says/does right now:

  • She’s big into kissing her owies.  So when she runs into you, accidentally hits you, etc. she’s started saying sorry on her own without being prompted and then kisses it!!  SO CUTE!
  • Anytime anyone is dancing on TV, she makes us get up and dance with her.  We’ve spend many a moment twirling around the living room.  And she’s starting singing along with the theme songs of her favorite shows (Sofia the First, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Frozen).  I love hearing her little voice sing along!
  • She’s started calling us by name in the middle of the night and/or morning when she wakes up.  It makes it a little easier to wake up in the middle of the night when she’s so cutely saying “Dada” “Mama”
  • She chews gum!  Like we’re talking chews and chews and chews like a real girl!  She’s chewed it for over an hour before.  And when she’s done she’ll take it out and hand it to you and say “All Done” (in an East Coast accent..where did that come from?!  Daddy says it’s the little bit of New York blood in her ;))
  • She’s started laughing at herself!  When she does something silly or when she’s looking through pictures of herself she’ll randomly throw her head back and start laughing!  Apparently she’s her own personal comedian!!
